hi all!

I have a suspect problem with agsmail.

I updated tonight from freeware to registered Mailserver Pro version. So i go sleep @ 5:30...after wakeing up @ 16:00 i saw the service is stopped since 8:00 O.o
So i start it @ 16:00 again...
At 18:30 ist stops again with I/O Error 32...O.o
I found this forum with the stayalive tool and im happy to keep the server up for this night. I wrote an support mail to agrosoft too.

Perhaps someone can help me too what the problem can be?

Server is:
DSKAG Austria Server P3 Series (1Ghz)
768MB Ram
Win2k Server
Raid and so on

Freeware was absolutly stable!

Thx guys and bye

Did you install over the top of the freeware version? If so, I suggest uninstalling Argo and doing a fresh install.

I did a successfull uninstall of the freeware version (but with option that he dont kills the existent useraccounts)

Restartet the server.

Installed Mailserver Pro version. Type in the registration code. Changed very much options so the mailserver should work and restarted the server again.

I done all how it stands on agrosoft Website for upgrading from freeware to pro version.

Can you compare the windows event log and argo event log and paste the results of the time of the crash here...

I would also now recommend doing an upgrade of your softwrae as is , basically reinstalling the software

Then try downloading the argo stay alive service we have in teh download section as this will restart the service on event of a service stop

Here you have the last stop from today, it stops without any ground. After
30 seconds it restarts with Argostayalave tool. But these 30 seconds and the
lost connection while talking to another SMTP server is too much für our
mailtraffic we get every day. And it stops every few hours, so we have
summary a few minutes (around 5 mins) of downtime every day :/

I compared the eventlog of our server...yesterday with I/O Error he ment there is an error direct from the mailserver software:

http://www.dskag.at/temp/Mailerror1.jpg
Sry its in german...

And today this one time he stops without any error eventlog writes an drwatson error for unknow application.

http://www.dskag.at/temp/Mailerror2.jpg
Sry in german too.

When you need any translation let me now.

A reinstall only takes 30 seconds and as long as all procedures are followed including stopping the service and unregistering it will be really simple,and this will really help us in trying too provide you support for this problem..
remember too stop the argostay alive service before doing the upgrade as this is a must before doing the upgrade..

Also remember to restart the service after the upgrade

i can generate i/o error at will with a copy and paste of the current log file, this is what i mean in the application section of the windows event viewer

Event Type: Error
Event Source: mlsrvnt.exe
Event Category: None
Event ID: 0
Date:  12/18/2006
Time:  7:21:51 PM
User:  N/A
Computer: MAILSRV2003
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( mlsrvnt.exe ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: I/O error 32.

this is why i only manually open the log file with notepad 24 hours later when AMS is writing inside a new log file...

Did you reinstall the application??

Have you also made sure that your virus scan software is not scanning the temp file and the outbox file of argo, and that it is set up too allow full access to port 25 and 587?

I syncronised every 5 minutes Mailaccounts, logfiles and Config. The Problem is When Easy2Sync read a logfile (for copying) while ArgoMailserver wants to write in it. I dont know why and the developer too i think! ^^ Easy2sync DONT Blocks the file while reading. But i deactiveded the 5 minutes syncronisation für the logfiles and backup it next day cos ArgoMailserver dont writes then into the old logfile. So i can lost the Logfile when Server dies @ 23:50 as example..but its better then crash of Application every 2 hours.

Mail Server v1.0.8.3
  • Added support of STARTTLS (STLS) command for SMTP, POP3, IMAP, and SMTP relay and delivery, which will allow secure, fully encrypted connections, when possible;
11/6/2011 1:10:34 PM
Mail Server v1.0.8.2
  • Optimized delivery speed. In earlier versions each "tick" which was checking whether messages were in the outbox queue, was picking up only one message at a time. Now it will attempt to pick MaximumAllowedThreads-ActiveDelivery threads messages, which should considerably increase deliver speed;
  • Optimized SEARCH and STATUS IMAP commands. They appear to be used very extensively by Android, and (not that extensively, but still) by iPhone. Now users who use mobile phones to access their IMAP accounts will see considerable improvement;
  • Optimized STORE IMAP command. Before storing of IMAP flags was occuring one message at a time, which seemed to be fine with SQL server, but proved to be slow for SQLite... Now it happens with single SQL call.
10/8/2011 7:59:35 PM
ArGoSoft Mail Server v1.0.8.1
  • Fixed a bug: when using IMAP via Firefox with "When I delete a message, move it to Trash folder" option, marking messages in the trash folder was causing high CPU usage, and was taking some time, making the server pretty much non-responsive. The problem was happening only when using SQLite.
6/6/2011 9:33:36 PM
ArGoSoft Mail Server v1.0.8.0
  • Fixed a problem with web interface - was showing only first page of messages, and would not switch to other pages; In order to fix the web interface, mail server itself has to be updated;
  • When installint initially, was still using SQLite, even when SQL was requested;
  • There was a problem with switching from SQLite database engine to SQL server database engine: the SQL database was not being created;
5/23/2011 5:53:55 PM
ArGoSoft Mail Server .NET v1.0.7.9
  • The server no longer requires Microsoft SQL Server. If SQL server is not found, it will use SQLite engine, which does not require separate installation. If SQL server is found, then user will be prompted whether he wants to use it;
  • Made other improvements, such as, now mailbox rebuild indexes orphaned records, rather then deleting them, also added an opotion to increment UIDL validity of folder (both on the Mailbox viewer box);
  • Made minor improvements on web interface;
