I cannot install the ArGoSoft Mail Server on Windows Vista. I've got the UAC turned off, I have admin rights, and I created a bat file with the following command in it:
msiexec /i mailserversetup.msi

I right click on the bat file and do "Run As Administrator".  Not matter what I do, I always get this error:

"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2869."

Can someone please help me?

As I mentioned in my original post, I already have the UAC turned off (I turned it off a long time ago long before ever trying to install this software).

So it's something else.  Any ideas? Does anybody here have this software running under vista?

Did you restart the computer after turning off UAC?

UAC has been turned off on my computer for over a year :-).  So there's no way it could be that.  Again, are you sure the install works for vista? Has anyone here actually confirmed it? I'm a bit skeptical that this software will even run on vista since it won't even install.

You may want to try this it worked for me:
1. Go to Start, All Programs, Accesories and rigth click on command prompt, left click on "Run as Administrator".
2. cd to the directory where you have the MailServerSetup.msi file.
3. type MailserverSetup.msi and hit enter.

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately I had already tried that with no success.  Maybe you were using a previous version of the mail server perhaps?  I'm wondering if somehow the latest installer got hosed up, because I've tried everything and it will not install on vista.

The problem is that I am running Windows Vista Ultimate and it does not have Server Manager.

But I did find this article on Microsoft's website:

It led me to opening my Programs and Features in Windows Control Panel.
Click on Turn Windows Features on or off.
Then open IIS Services.
Click on the IIS WMI Compatability and let it install.
I also clicked on the .net Framework 3.0 section just to make sure since the server is written in .net.

After this, I ran the install program again and it worked.
I was able to install the program.
