| Hi
My Mailserver 1.0.5.4 hangs from time to time. Trying to stop it does not work, it throws an exception:

| Unfortunately the problem did not disappear with the new version. It hung already twice. I don't know where to look to solve this problem. There is nothing to see in the logs, it just stops working, the server appears to be running but it does nothing and if I try to stop it, I get the above message aftet a while. No event message, nothing.

| Can you check what do you have in your outbox when it happens again? Are there any messages in the outbox? If there are, how many, and what is their status?

| This is happening to me also.. Same os and version. Every few days the CPU spikes to 100 percent on the service and there is always something in the outbox.

| First, go to Options - Server Options - Advanced, and make sure "Use Simple Method when Receiving SMTP Data" is checked.
Then, if the problem happens again, look whether you have any active deliveries in your outbox. Also, do not use logging of POP and IMAP commands. They are very resource consuming in .NET version, probably, I will be doing something about it shortly, but for now just do not log these protocols, unless you really need to troubleshoot some problem.

| Can you see any pattern with these outbox messages? Possibly, it happens when server tries to deliver mail to some specific domain?
Also, can you disable logging of POP3 and IMAP commands from Options - Services, or use hourly logs from Options - Server Options - General? It could be a load issue, load, which is caused by writing to logs. | | | |

| Today the argo service spiked to 100% cpu usage and the memory it was consuming jumped from its normal 200mg to about 600mg. There was no mail in the outbox and I ran the outbox rebuild and it said it had one orphan file. Maybe because I had to kill the service and restart it. After the restart now the service still consumes 500mg of ram and is running 100% cpu usage. I am going to take it down here in a few and run some maintenance. I'll let you know.

| Well, I had to kill the service and restart it.. I have not had a chance to run the maintenance yet. However did go through all the options and bound the mail server to the specific ip address that is outbound. The second ip is for a vpn. That was several days ago and it has not happened again. Its too soon to tell but I will keep you guys posted..
I wonder if the others that are having this problem have more than on network card or more than one ip on their server?

| It seem that setting the "send mail using this ip" to the single ip solved my problem with the high cpu usage and some email hanging in the outbox. It's been 3 weeks and ever since I made that change i have had no hangs in the outbox. The only thing I can think of is that the mailserver decided to use the second ip to send a message and it would never go.. | | | | |

Active Forums 4.2 |
|  | | Mail Server v1.0.8.3 |
- Added support of STARTTLS (STLS) command for SMTP, POP3, IMAP, and SMTP relay and delivery, which will
allow secure, fully encrypted connections, when possible;
| | 11/6/2011 1:10:34 PM |
| Mail Server v1.0.8.2 |
- Optimized delivery speed. In earlier versions each "tick" which was checking whether messages were
in the outbox queue, was picking up only one message at a time. Now it will attempt to pick MaximumAllowedThreads-ActiveDelivery threads
messages, which should considerably increase deliver speed;
- Optimized SEARCH and STATUS IMAP commands. They appear to be used very extensively by Android, and (not that extensively, but still) by
iPhone. Now users who use mobile phones to access their IMAP accounts will see considerable improvement;
- Optimized STORE IMAP command. Before storing of IMAP flags was occuring one message at a time, which seemed to be fine
with SQL server, but proved to be slow for SQLite... Now it happens with single SQL call.

| ArGoSoft Mail Server v1.0.8.1 | -
Fixed a bug: when using IMAP via Firefox with "When I delete a message, move it
to Trash folder" option, marking messages in the trash folder was causing high CPU usage,
and was taking some time, making the server pretty much non-responsive. The problem was
happening only when using SQLite.
| | 6/6/2011 9:33:36 PM |
| ArGoSoft Mail Server v1.0.8.0 |
- Fixed a problem with web interface - was showing only first page of messages, and would not
switch to other pages; In order to fix the web interface, mail server itself has to be updated;
- When installint initially, was still using SQLite, even when SQL was requested;
- There was a problem with switching from SQLite database engine to SQL server database engine:
the SQL database was not being created;
| | 5/23/2011 5:53:55 PM |
| ArGoSoft Mail Server .NET v1.0.7.9 |
- The server no longer requires Microsoft SQL Server. If SQL server is not found, it will use
SQLite engine, which does not require separate installation. If SQL server is found, then user will be
prompted whether he wants to use it;
- Made other improvements, such as, now mailbox rebuild indexes orphaned records, rather then deleting them,
also added an opotion to increment UIDL validity of folder (both on the Mailbox viewer box);
- Made minor improvements on web interface;
