With my recent experience with Seagate, a company that I thought once produced a quality product, I would like to know what brand of hard drive would you trust your data on?

This is a trick question, right? You should never trust any hard drive with your data - this is why you back up religiously. That being said I've had the best luck Hitachi, worst luck with Maxtor.

In the past I had never had an issue with Seagate, but after this ordeal with them with 3 original drives failing and 1 replacement being shipped to me defective, I have second thoughts for sure.

The originally purpose of replacing my drives back in January was to avoid this very situation (see site news for the details). For the servers I have regular backups and that schedule has now been increased. I in the process of implementing a replication type copying of files and DB backups between machines. Also now both machines can take the place of each other, although performance will suffer.

Also Maxtor is now part of Seagate, and after this issue, there seems to be a lot of chatter of the pour quality of these drives.

Thanks for the feedback.

Here is an update on my Desktop Computer. Yesterday the newly replaced Seagate hard drive CRASHED AGAIN! . I have had it with Seagate. I will take the loss on the Hard Drive cost and I have ordered 3 new Hitachi Hard Drives. Once I get my Desktop back in order, I will be swapping out the Server hard drives. The time wasted dealiing with Seagate and having to constantly replace drives and cloning and restoring data is becoming counter productive and taking me away from other tasks and projects. Heed this warning, SEAGATE DRIVES are CRAP! See Site news forum for details on the main issues I have had with them.

honestly I don't trust hard-drives, simply because it can get stolen, broken etc. Seagate is good but if it's up to me I would choose cloud server to backup all my data.

You have to put your data somewhere. The only secure computer is one that is unplugged and locked in a vault. But then it is useless. I no longer trust Seagate hard drives. I had 3 original Seagate drives, all failed. When Seagate RMA'ed them 3 more failed. The next round, 1 of the three was DOA. I had it. I replaced all 3 with Hitachi Hard drives and never looked back. I also have a NAS to where all of my workstations and servers are backup up to. For a low budget operation, I feel I have a pretty reliable backup strategy with a lot of redundancy built in. Plus a Cloud server costs $$$, and how secure is it? You do not know who is working in that computer room where those servers are stored and how trustworthy they are? I am a bit on the paranoid side of things. I would have more faith on an internal cloud than a 3rd party.

Mail Server v1.0.8.3
  • Added support of STARTTLS (STLS) command for SMTP, POP3, IMAP, and SMTP relay and delivery, which will allow secure, fully encrypted connections, when possible;
11/6/2011 1:10:34 PM
Mail Server v1.0.8.2
  • Optimized delivery speed. In earlier versions each "tick" which was checking whether messages were in the outbox queue, was picking up only one message at a time. Now it will attempt to pick MaximumAllowedThreads-ActiveDelivery threads messages, which should considerably increase deliver speed;
  • Optimized SEARCH and STATUS IMAP commands. They appear to be used very extensively by Android, and (not that extensively, but still) by iPhone. Now users who use mobile phones to access their IMAP accounts will see considerable improvement;
  • Optimized STORE IMAP command. Before storing of IMAP flags was occuring one message at a time, which seemed to be fine with SQL server, but proved to be slow for SQLite... Now it happens with single SQL call.

ArGoSoft Mail Server v1.0.8.1
  • Fixed a bug: when using IMAP via Firefox with "When I delete a message, move it to Trash folder" option, marking messages in the trash folder was causing high CPU usage, and was taking some time, making the server pretty much non-responsive. The problem was happening only when using SQLite.

ArGoSoft Mail Server v1.0.8.0
  • Fixed a problem with web interface - was showing only first page of messages, and would not switch to other pages; In order to fix the web interface, mail server itself has to be updated;
  • When installint initially, was still using SQLite, even when SQL was requested;
  • There was a problem with switching from SQLite database engine to SQL server database engine: the SQL database was not being created;
5/23/2011 5:53:55 PM
ArGoSoft Mail Server .NET v1.0.7.9
  • The server no longer requires Microsoft SQL Server. If SQL server is not found, it will use SQLite engine, which does not require separate installation. If SQL server is found, then user will be prompted whether he wants to use it;
  • Made other improvements, such as, now mailbox rebuild indexes orphaned records, rather then deleting them, also added an opotion to increment UIDL validity of folder (both on the Mailbox viewer box);
  • Made minor improvements on web interface;
