| Up till now, I have dealt with new domains only so there's no problem setting them up. I now have an existing domain that I am moving to my server. The question is really, how to be sure that no emails will stay on the old server? Any tips, hints, tricks, etc. associated with getting any emails left on the old server once the transfer is complete? | | | Computing`s worst enemy......a user

| Argosoft has a program called mail transfer that will do the task for you.
Or, if users are few and you want the cheapo method...
Have them download all messages via pop. Then switch over to the new server. If they insist on keeping messages in IMAP, then they can just copy the messages from their pop3 folder to their IMAP folders.
Easy enough really.

On the cheap:
I have all the accounts setup. There were only 15.
What about the DNS update delay? The registrar says anywhere from 12-36 hours. I would like to do it over the weekend. If it takes the min 12 hours to propagate what about those 12 hours of emails on the other server? Just leave their OL, OE, TB, etc. open and POP every 5 min or so? | | | Computing`s worst enemy......a user

| What about this scenario. Rename the old mail server to old.somedomain.com. Since the DNS will propagate at about the same time. Once all the DNS MX records point to your server, use the old.somedomain.com to retrieve what ever email is left on that server to your server. Once transferred, you can kill the old server. | | - - - - - - -

| Keep in mind that some DNS servers, especially Yahoo cache the server address beyond the stated TTL. We have found that Yahoo take almost 48 hours to clear their cache.

| A good tip is too restart your dns service 4 times a day after a change as it will propogate your dns chnages too all other services quicker. It is true that some services do run DNS caching, but the major players do refresh thier servers in line with thier TTL settings. Yahoo for example has plenty of RFC violations on thier own dns and mailservers so I would not be to concerned with them..
So restart your primary and secondary dns servers 4 times a day but two hours apart to propogate your changes faster if you have made a significant change you want too publish

Fixed a bug: when using IMAP via Firefox with "When I delete a message, move it
to Trash folder" option, marking messages in the trash folder was causing high CPU usage,
and was taking some time, making the server pretty much non-responsive. The problem was
happening only when using SQLite.

- When installint initially, was still using SQLite, even when SQL was requested;
- There was a problem with switching from SQLite database engine to SQL server database engine:

- The server no longer requires Microsoft SQL Server. If SQL server is not found, it will use
SQLite engine, which does not require separate installation. If SQL server is found, then user will be
