Can anyone give me some pointers on how to install on a Win2k3 server running MS SQL Server 2000 as the default instance with an MS SQL Server 2008 named instance?

 

I keep getting the same errors and cannot install the mail server because it's seeing the SQL Server 2000 default instance, and doesn't see the MS SQL Server 2008 named instance.

 

Is there some way to install with a specific connection string?

Any clues as to whether I can simply install the server on another machine, then do an XCOPY install onto the production machine and get it running that way? (I'm worried about other things that I'll need to get it running other than just an XCOPY and running it, like registry entries and other installed files or settings.)

Got the problem solved.I emailed Archie and he got back to me in record time!

A while back I had tried to upgrade to the .NET version. I'd started the installation, but it failed as I did not have SQL Server 2005+ running (only 2k). 

 

The settings.xml file was still on the computer, and this caused problems. I deleted it, and tried installing again. I was prompted to select a SQL Server instance, chose the 2008 R2, and tada! Installation successful!
