Hope this is not off topic. I have an Argosoft Mail server Pro (1.8.6.7) at one IP (216.167.17.184) receiving messages from an IIS SMTP server at a different IP (64.50.172.81). On this IIS server websites generate different sorts of messages (errors, ecommerce notifications, etc.) via CDOSYS. When this server was set up mail seemed to go through no problem. Since then the ISP (lunarpages) set up a cisco firewall. I don't know if the problem started then or not but now everything is delayed. There were 40 or 50 messages in the queue and quite a few in the badmail folder. I have the argo server setup with the two IP addresses of the webserver as "Trusted IP's". Additionally I have a address server@plexcore.net setup as an authentication method in IIS SMTP. Does this sound like a port blocking issue? I have the IIS SMTP setup to listen on port 8025 and send on port 25. The error on the "badmail" is 4.4.7.
If you need more information let me know.

Dave:
You should be able to test whether there is a port blocking issue. I assume that you have access to the webserver? You should be able to telnet to the email server (port 25) from the webserver. If you are not getting through, I'd suspect a firewall issue. If you are getting through, then there is something else going on. Let us know the results of the telnet.

Are you seeing any communication in the argo log from the IP address of the webserver?

HTH

Hi:
I can't telnet in to port 25 or 8025 since I don't have the telnet service running on the server. At least I think it needs that to even respond to a telnet request. Anyway - I think I resolved the issue. I am in the middle of moving my hosting from Peer1 to LunarPages. I still have the mail server and DNS on Peer1. However I am moving websites one at a time. In the interim I set up DNS at LunarPages in anticpation of switching DNS at a later point. However I setup DNS with the new anticpated address of the argosoft server in the LunarPages DNS. I switched the settings to the current IP on Peer1 and at least one of the pieces of mail I expected showed up at my mail here at the office.
I will let you know if I discover anything else.
Thanks,
Dave Hudson

Hi:
I checked my logs and am definately seeing traffic from my lunarpages server. So the DNS must have fixed the problem and it appears that port 25 is indeed not blocked. Thanks for your help.

Mail Server v1.0.8.3
  • Added support of STARTTLS (STLS) command for SMTP, POP3, IMAP, and SMTP relay and delivery, which will allow secure, fully encrypted connections, when possible;

Mail Server v1.0.8.2
  • Optimized delivery speed. In earlier versions each "tick" which was checking whether messages were in the outbox queue, was picking up only one message at a time. Now it will attempt to pick MaximumAllowedThreads-ActiveDelivery threads messages, which should considerably increase deliver speed;
  • Optimized SEARCH and STATUS IMAP commands. They appear to be used very extensively by Android, and (not that extensively, but still) by iPhone. Now users who use mobile phones to access their IMAP accounts will see considerable improvement;
  • Optimized STORE IMAP command. Before storing of IMAP flags was occuring one message at a time, which seemed to be fine with SQL server, but proved to be slow for SQLite... Now it happens with single SQL call.

ArGoSoft Mail Server v1.0.8.1
  • Fixed a bug: when using IMAP via Firefox with "When I delete a message, move it to Trash folder" option, marking messages in the trash folder was causing high CPU usage, and was taking some time, making the server pretty much non-responsive. The problem was happening only when using SQLite.

ArGoSoft Mail Server v1.0.8.0
  • Fixed a problem with web interface - was showing only first page of messages, and would not switch to other pages; In order to fix the web interface, mail server itself has to be updated;
  • When installint initially, was still using SQLite, even when SQL was requested;
  • There was a problem with switching from SQLite database engine to SQL server database engine: the SQL database was not being created;

ArGoSoft Mail Server .NET v1.0.7.9
  • The server no longer requires Microsoft SQL Server. If SQL server is not found, it will use SQLite engine, which does not require separate installation. If SQL server is found, then user will be prompted whether he wants to use it;
  • Made other improvements, such as, now mailbox rebuild indexes orphaned records, rather then deleting them, also added an opotion to increment UIDL validity of folder (both on the Mailbox viewer box);
  • Made minor improvements on web interface;
