| Is there a way to remove internet access from one user on a Windows XP Home machine?
(my sister in law wants to cut her teenage daughter off from the internet but still be able to access the internet herself using her own account on the same pc) Is this possible? | | |

| Thanks guys, someone suggested logging in as administrator and then going to Windows Explorer and denying access to IExplorer and AIM for the teenage daughter. Haven't tried it yet but it makes sense to me.

That sounds good, but I don't think it would prevent her from using a different browser or a different IM applicaiton. I have limited work on Home Edition, but what about disabling INET access to her profile? | | - - - - - - -

| Remember this though... You can type in a web address and surf the internet from the my computer window.
I would block the port output to 80 not just the internet application as on XP If you block the port 80 only she will then at least be able to get email

| easy really.. Depending on teh XP version I will do some researchj in regards to Home but you should be able too add a bs proxy too internet explorer say 10.0.0.1 and port 8086 that way she can never connect to the internet. or email as it will block all access as it will be routed through teh bs proxy.. as she will have a sperate user profile as a user with limited access she will not be able too access the settings and it will be blocked. plus as she is not a power user she will not be able too install an alternate browser
Mom can then have admin access and she can control the proxy anyway she feels like, as with home I am not sure if it sets the proxy for all users or just the assigned user. regardless mom can just set the proxy on or off as she logs in or out..
I hope this makes sense??

| yep makes sense...I'll try it on one of my machines when I get home...I've got a felling it's not going to be for individual users but I'll give it a go!

Fixed a bug: when using IMAP via Firefox with "When I delete a message, move it
to Trash folder" option, marking messages in the trash folder was causing high CPU usage,
