Hello all,

The problems laid out in this post has been rectified by following Robin's directions and turning off log file creation. I would like to know if anyone has any ideas why creating a text log file would have caused this issue in the first place and if there is any other solution since I have often used the log files to track down issues in the past.

Thanks

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry. The topic title should be "... Email Clients NOT Receiving Mail ..."

The Server:

Windows Server 2003
2.0 GHz CPU
1 GB of RAM

Windows server 2003 has all of the latest and greatest updates. I downloaded them this morning when all of this started.

The Program:

ArgoSoft Email Server Pro version 1.8.8.9

When this began this  morning I was on 1.8.8.8 and upgraded to see if that fixed the problem. It didn't.

The Problem:

The servers CPU is constantly maxes at 99% when the ArgoSoft service mlsrvnt.exe is running. Also no one can receive email from the server. I followed the directions from a previous posting  from  someone that was having the CPU maxed out issue but it didn't fix either of my problems. When I try to receive I have have gotten a couple of error:

0x8004210A - This problem occurs when your mail server requires both Secure Sockets Layer security (SSL) and Secure Password Authentication (SPA).

Neither SSL or SPA is active or has been active on our setup.

0x800CCC0F - These error messages may occur if Microsoft Outlook or if Microsoft Outlook Express cannot establish a connection with your e-mail server. These error messages are frequently caused by one of the following:

Incorrect account settings
Misconfiguration of personal firewall software
Antivirus software
A bad modem
Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) size
Outlook Express has been removed from the computer or the installation is damaged
Your user profile in Outlook is damaged
An e-mail item on your POP3 server is damaged

I have checked all of these things and none of them is causing the issue either.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

What virus scan package are you using?? As it may be trying too check teh incoming and outgoing queues which may casue teh bottleneck..

Turn off all cache options, then turn off logging and close the admin window and try then..
If the symptoms are still there then disable your virus scan to test and I think that you should see by doing the above that one of these is relative to your problem

I followed your instructions and now everything is working. I don't have an antiviral program that I run concurrently with ArgoSoft  and none of the caches are on but turning off all of the logs  and closing the admin screen fixed everything instantly.

Thanks!

I'm running 1.8.9.6

I had the problem and it was cured by turning off the Lockout manger in Server protection.

Nigel:

I've only seen lockout manager cause this problem under the following circumstances:

1) Maintenance has been turned off, and lockout manager has a large number of entries

2) Lockout manager has more than about 32k entries

3) The lockout manager database has gotten corrupted. You can test this by trying to view the database entries. If you get an error, your database is corrupted. You have to stop the server, delete the CDS and restart the server if this happens.

HTH

Mail Server v1.0.8.3
  • Added support of STARTTLS (STLS) command for SMTP, POP3, IMAP, and SMTP relay and delivery, which will allow secure, fully encrypted connections, when possible;
11/6/2011 1:10:34 PM
Mail Server v1.0.8.2
  • Optimized delivery speed. In earlier versions each "tick" which was checking whether messages were in the outbox queue, was picking up only one message at a time. Now it will attempt to pick MaximumAllowedThreads-ActiveDelivery threads messages, which should considerably increase deliver speed;
  • Optimized SEARCH and STATUS IMAP commands. They appear to be used very extensively by Android, and (not that extensively, but still) by iPhone. Now users who use mobile phones to access their IMAP accounts will see considerable improvement;
  • Optimized STORE IMAP command. Before storing of IMAP flags was occuring one message at a time, which seemed to be fine with SQL server, but proved to be slow for SQLite... Now it happens with single SQL call.

ArGoSoft Mail Server v1.0.8.1
  • Fixed a bug: when using IMAP via Firefox with "When I delete a message, move it to Trash folder" option, marking messages in the trash folder was causing high CPU usage, and was taking some time, making the server pretty much non-responsive. The problem was happening only when using SQLite.

ArGoSoft Mail Server v1.0.8.0
  • Fixed a problem with web interface - was showing only first page of messages, and would not switch to other pages; In order to fix the web interface, mail server itself has to be updated;
  • When installint initially, was still using SQLite, even when SQL was requested;
  • There was a problem with switching from SQLite database engine to SQL server database engine: the SQL database was not being created;
5/23/2011 5:53:55 PM
ArGoSoft Mail Server .NET v1.0.7.9
  • The server no longer requires Microsoft SQL Server. If SQL server is not found, it will use SQLite engine, which does not require separate installation. If SQL server is found, then user will be prompted whether he wants to use it;
  • Made other improvements, such as, now mailbox rebuild indexes orphaned records, rather then deleting them, also added an opotion to increment UIDL validity of folder (both on the Mailbox viewer box);
  • Made minor improvements on web interface;
