I'm using Argosoft Mail server pro 1.8.9.5 with dynamic DNS account.

I can receive mail from gmail, yahoo ... even from this forum registration confirmation.

But when I reply or send mail to gmail, yahoo ...
server gave me following message and mail won't deliver ...

10/7/2008 1:39:19 PM - Starting delivery thread, ID=25
10/7/2008 1:39:19 PM - {    25} START Delivery
10/7/2008 1:39:19 PM - [    25] Delivering to 2 recipients
10/7/2008 1:39:19 PM - [    25] Attempting to deliver to the domain gawab.com
10/7/2008 1:39:19 PM - Active delivery threads (ID=25 start): 0
10/7/2008 1:39:25 PM - [    25] DNS Timeout. Will retry in 0 hr 10 min
10/7/2008 1:39:25 PM - [    25] Attempting to deliver to the domain gmail.com
10/7/2008 1:39:31 PM - [    25] DNS Timeout. Will retry in 0 hr 10 min
10/7/2008 1:39:31 PM - Delivery thread, ID=25, terminated after running for 12.031 seconds.
10/7/2008 1:39:31 PM - {    25} END Delivery

how can I solve ...?
TIA ...

Your DNS server(s) are not responding. Verify that they are real DNS servers, and that you can get to them.

Thanks Matt,
I don't think this is DNS server problem ...
I'm using My ISP's DNS server ...
I can browse the net, send email using outlook, web-mail, everything is fine ..
If i use the build-in Tools > Alternate Delivery> Relay Service ....
it is working ...
but with this option I can send 4KB or less only which I don't want to ...
any ideas ...?

Have you listed your ISP's DNS servers in the application settings? Use NSLOOKUP using each of those servers to resolve a query and make sure that they are responding properly. You may need to increase the DNS timeout value if they are slow to respond.

OK. When I use NSLOOKUP, and set my DNS server to 202.188.1.5, it times out when I do a query. The 208.67.222.222 does answer quickly though.

I suspect that your argo is trying to use the 202.188.1.5 server, which is mis-behaving.

OK... let's take a step back..... Has this ever worked? If so, what has changed? Does this work to send to ANY domain, other than gmail, yahoo??(in other words, is it ALL domains, or only gmail and yahoo)?

open a command prompt on that machine... Type "nslookup" and hit enter. Then type "server 208.67.222.222" and hit enter.. then type "gmail.com"(or any other domain name) and hit enter. If it comes back with the address of the domain then the DNS server is working. It still sounds like the DNS server(s) are not replying to your query in an appropriate amount of time. If it replies "timed out" then you are not able to get to that DNS server.

Is this argo server on a separate box, or on your desktop/laptop?

You can also click on the little checkmark next to where you configure your DNS server(s) to have argo check the server(s), and tell you what it found. It may find valid DNS servers, and ask if you want to use those....

hi..Matt...
this is nslookup result from the same machine ...
it was on my laptop where the argo server installed ...

C:\Documents and Settings\shwescorpion>nslookup gmail.com
Server:  cns2.tm.net.my
Address:  202.188.1.5

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    gmail.com
Addresses:  64.233.161.83, 66.249.91.83, 209.85.171.83

C:\Documents and Settings\shwescorpion>nslookup 208.67.222.222
Server:  cns2.tm.net.my
Address:  202.188.1.5

Name:    resolver1.opendns.com
Address:  208.67.222.222

as you can see my machine DNS server is 202.188.1.5 and it was responding ...

if I click on that checkmark ... the app pickup the DNS entry of my machine 202.188.1.5 ....
now I did configure manually the DNS server to 220.233.167.31 which was from AU and still the same result ...

OK... click on the check mark next to where you specify dns servers in argo. Let it check those servers to see if they are good dns servers.... Do you have any kind of firewall or virus checking program on your system that may be blocking?

Mail Server v1.0.5.9

Mail Server

  • Added additonal tracking of connections for SMTP and POP3: if they stay on for over 30 minutes, they are getting disconnected;
  • Fixed a problem with mailbags when they accept mail only when main server is down: in case of timeout mailbags were still treating the main server as "available" and rejecting mail;
  • Changed color coding of logs. Now red denotes only errors, delivery is green, POP3, SMTP, IMAP connections - blue;

Web Interface

  • Fixed a problem, when session timeouts were causing errors in the windows system logs;

Mail Server v1.0.5.8

Mail Server

  • Mailbags now have an option to accept mail only when specified server is down - will help to fight with spam which attempt to deliver mail bypassing the main server;
  • When delivering mail, if main exchanger returns 4xx reply (temporary problem), the server will not try other exchangers, will retry later the main exchanger;
  • Server options moved from registry to a XML file. 64 bit versions of Vista and 2008 server appear to be having access rights problems to the Windows registry, and the change will make our server more compatible with 64 bit versions;
  • Added an option to specify the number of lines on the log screen, when using the user interface. Was causing memory problems if left running for long time;
  • Fixed couple of problems, which were showing when SQL server was set up to use case sensitive SQL statements;
  • Made changes in the remoting interface to allow logging in using aliases;

Web Interface

  • Made changes to allow logging in using aliases;
  • When viewing folders, web interface now displays the name of logged in user;
