I have recently installed Argosoft Email Server v1.8.9.3. on two of my servers. One of which constantly gives the following error
DNS Error: Out of memory. Will bounce back
If i reboot the server it works for a while and then the error resumes. I have pasted an example form the error logs with the email addresses and domains altered for security.c

I have checked the forum and there does not seem to be any know issues of this kind. If anybody knows why this maybe occurring I'd love to hear from you as its driving me mad ;-)

Are both servers using the same DNS server?  I would first check your DNS config in ArGo. If they are both using the same DNS server, then try re-installing. You could have a corrupt file. I recommend un-installing first then reinstalling.

This link is for moving your server, but you can use the steps to make a backup of your user accounts and related data.

Please let us know how you make out.

I also have almost the same problem, just that I run only one server:

At least 2 times in a month all my customers start to call me same time: "Hey dude, again you'll have to reset your mail server. Out of memory!" They recieve this error in their bounced mail. After I look at my log file there is plenty of "errorDNS Error: Out of memory" in it. This things happens 1 year already I guess. I have never bothered as I thought maybe there is something wrong with my hardware (1.2GB RAM), so I simply reset my server and it is ok for app..14 days. I have updated my Argosoft mail server PRO regulary and there was no change from older versions to 1.8.9.0

Today I decided to make some more research on my old problem and googled "argosoft out of memory" and surfed right to your post. Actualy I am glad I am not the only one with this problem. Have you managed to solve your problem?

BTW: my dns-es are entered (don't know if it is ok to publish all my setings here?)

Anyone with potential solution to my problem, please help. I would be glad to provide more data in order to finish my night mare. Thank you in advance!

The latest version of the Win32 ArGo Mail Server is 1.8.9.3. Try updating to the newest version first. Then try turning off DNS Caching. Delete all *.CDS files in the ArGo folder and sub folders. Then Run Maintenance.

See if that make any difference.

Oh...

Thank you for your super fast reply!

I didn't upgrade Argosoft mailserver to 1.8.9.3 yet, because there was no (for me) important fixes noticed in change log:

October 23 2007, v1.8.9.3

Fixed a problem when creating the export data for .NET version: if autoresponder contained more than 255 characters, export process was "hanging";
September 03 2007, v1.8.9.2

Fixed problem with IMAP, reporting wrong message numbers;
Made changes, fixing certain problems with Squirrel Mail;
Arpil 10 2007, v1.8.9.1

Changes below apply to Pro version only

Fixed a problem with including the mailing list names multiple times, when "Include Name of List..." option was enabled;
Export to .NET version now will also export subfolders and email messages, contained in them;

But now, as you suggested, I definetely will upgrade and do exactly what you suggested. Disable DNS cache...

Thank you very much for now. I sure will let you know in 14 days what if error will continue.

Best regards,

Maks

When troubleshooting an issue, it is good to have the latest version. Plus if you decide to move to the .NET version, you would need this version anyway.

I agree with you, so:

I have upgraded to Argosoft Mailserver 1.8.9.3, stopped server, disabled function "Cache MX data" in "Options" under "Advanced 2" tab, delete *.cds files (there were 1165 of them), start Mailserver and right after that executed "Maintenance".

I have scheduled Maintenance enabled every night at 02:00 am for over 1 year that I can remember.

Thank you for your help, I appreciate this very much!

And now I will have to wait for the next 14 days period to see if this error will show up again or not. I will sure let you know about result of our troubleshooting. Thank you!

Off topic:

You also mentioned that I can upgrade to .NET version. Would I have to pay new license for upgrading to this version, or PRO license is valid for .NET version too? Actualy I would like to know if PRO version will not be upgradeable any more as there is all about .NET version in news?

What is most important difference between PRO and .NET? Platform only?

As I wrote:

I guess this is the only caching I was told to disable, or?

Maks,

Please keep us posted.  As far as your Off Topic Question. I do believe that Archie is concentrating on the .NET version and is trying not to do any more with the Win32 Version. You can check out the product features at http://www.argosoft.com/RootPages/MailServerNET/.  I think the .NET is a new license fee, but to be sure I would ask Archie directly. http://www.argosoft.com/RootPages/Support.aspx.

 I'm using it and love it.

Mr. Steve Topilnycky,

Thank you very much for your help.
My mail server is more than 24 days online without reset. Today I have called some of my customers to ask them if there is any problem they have noticed maybe, because I didn't notice any problem at all.
They all said "no problem" great performance and everything works just fine.

So I need to thank you once more for your support. You have solved my 2-3 years lasting nightmare.

I was not able to post before because I forgot my login details (they were on my laptop before I reinstalled Vista with Ubuntu). I thought password retrieval is working on this forum, but when I tried to retrieve my password there was an error retrieving password for my account. So I simply registered as new user in order to make this final post.

Thank you and God bless you!

Mail Server v1.0.5.9

Mail Server

  • Added additonal tracking of connections for SMTP and POP3: if they stay on for over 30 minutes, they are getting disconnected;
  • Fixed a problem with mailbags when they accept mail only when main server is down: in case of timeout mailbags were still treating the main server as "available" and rejecting mail;
  • Changed color coding of logs. Now red denotes only errors, delivery is green, POP3, SMTP, IMAP connections - blue;

Web Interface

  • Fixed a problem, when session timeouts were causing errors in the windows system logs;

Mail Server v1.0.5.8

Mail Server

  • Mailbags now have an option to accept mail only when specified server is down - will help to fight with spam which attempt to deliver mail bypassing the main server;
  • When delivering mail, if main exchanger returns 4xx reply (temporary problem), the server will not try other exchangers, will retry later the main exchanger;
  • Server options moved from registry to a XML file. 64 bit versions of Vista and 2008 server appear to be having access rights problems to the Windows registry, and the change will make our server more compatible with 64 bit versions;
  • Added an option to specify the number of lines on the log screen, when using the user interface. Was causing memory problems if left running for long time;
  • Fixed couple of problems, which were showing when SQL server was set up to use case sensitive SQL statements;
  • Made changes in the remoting interface to allow logging in using aliases;

Web Interface

  • Made changes to allow logging in using aliases;
  • When viewing folders, web interface now displays the name of logged in user;
