Hi everyone,
I need some quick help. Argo Mail server is down and the service won't stay started. The service starts and then immediately stops. Here's some of what was going on in the mail log before it completely died:
3/30/2008 12:00:16 AM - (137315) Error: System Error. Code: 80. The file exists
Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!

More info:
From Event Viewer: The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( msServerForm ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Service failed on start: System Error. Code: 80. The file exists.

FredF, Which version are you using: Free, Plus, Pro? Are you a Registered User or are you still using the trial key? Do you have any Anti-Virus applications running? Any Backups or Copying routines, basically anything outside of ArGo that would touch one of its files? Is this a new issue, or is this happening for the first time on a new install? If none of the above applies, I suggest uninstalling and reinstalling. Bases on the Event log the service application can not be found. |

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the help.
1. Pro Version. 2. Registered user. 3. Not at this time 4. Not at this time. 5. New issue. Just started yesterday. Been on Argo a long time. 6. I've now done 3 re-installs. Once used the regular uninstall first and then twice did it the manual way. Problem was exactly the same after the reinstall.
Any ideas of what to try next?

What version of Pro are you using? Arhcie just release 1.8.9.4. Maybe better luck with a new version? |

Can you try to perform maintenance? Also, how big, in average, are your log files (Tools - View Previous Logs), do you use any antiviruses? What if you try to disable them? Archie |

Thanks for all the suggestions Steve. Archie over at Argosoft has been trying to help me on this. He spent quite a bit of time with me on Sunday on it. He gives amazing support for his mail server and I am very grateful. We haven't solved this issue yet but I have another suggestion from him we're trying tonight.
We've temporarily setup a secondary mail server so are back up but still need to figure this main one out.
To answer your questions:
1. We're using 1.8.9.3. 2. If I start the service from the service manager, all looks to start fine as always but still end up with that code 80, file exists, error. 3. Not running any server extension. 4. Maintenance didn't solve it and I had removed all the log files during the reinstalls. 5. No antivirus running at the moment.
Will let you know after I try Archie's latests suggestion tonight.
Thanks again both of you.

FredF, As you may have noticed, I ran into a little trouble myself with my Web Server. We are back running on my DB server for now...So the forums were down for a bit. Now back to the issue. Let us know how make out with Archies other suggestion. What OS are you using? (Windows 2000 Pro/Server, XP/2003 Server) Do you have any other apps running on any of the ports used by ArGo? You can try netstat -a Have you run a complete Virus Scan to ensure there are no viruses present? Spyware/Malware scan also. Did any of your enviroment variables change? i.e. Path, etc.. If you type SET at the command prompt it will list what you have set. At this point I am grasping at different possibilities. The event log entry states it can not find the service application. |

| Mail Server v1.0.5.9 | |
Mail Server
- Added additonal tracking of connections for SMTP and POP3: if they stay on for over 30 minutes, they are
getting disconnected;
- Fixed a problem with mailbags when they accept mail only when main server is down: in case of timeout
mailbags were still treating the main server as "available" and rejecting mail;
- Changed color coding of logs. Now red denotes only errors, delivery is green, POP3, SMTP, IMAP
connections - blue;
Web Interface
-
Fixed a problem, when session timeouts were causing errors in the windows system logs;

| Mail Server v1.0.5.8 | |
Mail Server
- Mailbags now have an option to accept mail only when specified server is down - will help to fight
with spam which attempt to deliver mail bypassing the main server;
- When delivering mail, if main exchanger returns 4xx reply (temporary problem), the server will not
try other exchangers, will retry later the main exchanger;
- Server options moved from registry to a XML file. 64 bit versions of Vista and 2008 server appear
to be having access rights problems to the Windows registry, and the change will make our server more
compatible with 64 bit versions;
- Added an option to specify the number of lines on the log screen, when using the user interface.
Was causing memory problems if left running for long time;
- Fixed couple of problems, which were showing when SQL server was set up to use
case sensitive SQL statements;
- Made changes in the remoting interface to allow logging in using aliases;
Web Interface
- Made changes to allow logging in using aliases;
- When viewing folders, web interface now displays the name of logged in user;
