Getting the same issue here and have been trying to fix it with no luck... it's been happening much more often now (a few times a week) and until a server reboot, argosoft pretty much dumps emails coming in. The worst part is that for forwarding accounts, these emails simply get lost and will never make the destination. A sample error code is:
Error: Access violation at address 004AD8D0 in module 'mlsrvnt.exe'. Read of address 00000000
Please. We can really use some help on this problem! |

Try running maintenance as it seems as thought you have corruption.. If this does not work stop the service and unregister it within argo close the argo control panel and then reinstall the application

| Did all of that. Have maintenance run automatically every night and just ran another maintenance run but no luck. Tried unregistering the program then uninstalled it, rebooted then reinstalled it but same errors. I'm at my wits end! |

| Here is another issue that could possibly cause this. Do you have any AntiVirus applications running? If So, first temporarily disable this and try it. Same with any IDS or Firewall applications. |

Did this just start happening out of the blue or maybe you did an update or installed something at the same time this started happening?? Take a look at your event logs to try and track this down.

It did just start happening out of the blue. However, it goes away when I disable Address Verification in the "Anti Spam" menu or when I disable my Symantec Anti-virus. Not sure what is causing this but I don't want to run my server without virus protection so I have disabled the Address Verification for now.
Would still like to figure this one out so I can keep the Anti-virus and Address Verification running. |

What version of Symantec AntiVirus are you using (Corp or Retail)?
What OS?
For SAV you want to exclude the following from scanning (the list below applies to the Corp Edition, but if using the Retail Edition, it should be similar):
Files:
.OUT
.TMP
Folders:
(These only apply is you are using the Server Side Solutions Server Extension Mail Filter)
C:\Program Files\Server Side Solutions\MailFilter\queue
C:\Program Files\Server Side Solutions\MailFilter\temp

| Most of the access violations seem to occur because of the caches. Turn them off if you haven't already done so. |

DJAvery, glad to hear you at least have the cause narrowed down! Good luck getting it completely worked out quickly!
Everyone else, thank you for the suggestions. I've done the following in the past couple of months and nothing has made these access violations stop: - Have run maintenance multiple times and for a while even had it doing it daily at midnight. - Have done a reinstall of the application - Removed AntiVirus temporarily (made no difference) - Unchecked Cache MX Data (under Advanced2 tab). Is there another cache option I'm missing somewhere since you mention caches (plural)?
So far nothing has made this problem go away and its erratic. Can be totally quiet for a week and then 3 times in a single day.
I appreciate any and all help with this. Thanks.

I'm running SAV Corp version 10 on Windows 2000 Adv. Server. Have added the .out and .tmp extensions to the exclusion list. Am not running Mail Filter but am running Paranoid Spam Detector.
As for the caches, the only one I am aware of in ArgoSoft Mail is the MX cache. Have unchecked that now as well. Am I missing anything else and why did the configuration work when I first installed it but quits months later? |

BTW....I'm now getting the following:
Error processing "Paranoid" spam detector: Catastrophic failure
Now what? |

| Givan as how those options are pretty pointless these days, I'd leave it disabled. |

Just a note to any others getting this. We had a server displaying these symptoms today and it turned out it had a corrupted lockout.cds (the file was 220k of nulls). Disabling the lockout manager got the server going and identified the broken component. Then we restored an old copy of the file from a backup and compacted it to remove the old entries and it seems to be working happily (other than that I still need to work out why the machine threw a bugcheck and rebooted) |

Rory, Thanks for sharing with the forum. From time to time, the *.CDS files can become corrupt. To correct this, delete all the *.CDS files, then run maintenance. That should do the trick. |

The problem is that this used to be fine until the last update.

Thanks so much. I had a power outage last night, since my server came back up I was getting: Requested SMTP connection from 209.225.55.151 .225.55.151], ID=7 ( 7) Error: Access violation at address 00402472 in module 'mlsrvnt.exe'. Read of address FFFFFFFC SMTP connection with 209.225.55.151 .225.55.151] ended. ID=7 { 7} END SMTP Everytime I checked, sent email or even tried to access webmail! I found and deleted the lockout.cds file started the service back up and all is well!
Thanks,
Steve
