Hi all. Actually I have several questions. I've use MS pro for about 5 years now but don't mess with the config very often. When I notice something different it usually takes me a while to track it down. Thought y'all could help here.

I recently enabled GEOIP and put in a long list of countries. Anyone have a good list that you use to reject mail? I don't want too much there.

Second. About the same time I enabled GEOIP I started getting extended logging. POP3 is logging the world. How can I drop this extended stuff and get back to the basics?

Last I can't seem to find where to set maximum attachment size. I've got one crazy person that, rather than send a link to a download, attaches the whole thing. It really bogs me down but it's eluding me.

Thanks for listening.

John

Hi John,

GEOIP, I have never used, so hopefully another user hear can ring in on that one. As for the logging, If an option Display Country Codes in Logs is enabled, each SMTP, POP3 and IMAP connection entry in the log will contain the information about connecting coutnry. Each received (via SMTP) email will also contain a header:

X-ArGoMail-Country: CC

where CC is country code.

I'm not sure if this is what you are encountering or not.

Maximum Attachement size is set on your ArGo Options on the Advanced Tab. Message Size Limit – This option allows you to specify maximum size of message, which will be accepted by server. If message size exceeds the limit, server will reject message, sending back to the client '552 Too much mail data' error message

I hope this helps.

As for a list of countries.... We asked our users what countries they needed to receive email from, and then excluded everything else. The list of country codes I think is a standard list...

We actually host several domains, and had to move the country code filtering into mailfilter, so that we could have a different list for each domain.

You can easily do a search on the web for countries that send the most spam, then exclude some of the top spam countries.
