Hi

I just installed mail server pro on a windows 2003 server machine which also runs IIS including the virtual smtp server. I need the IIS smtp server since we have a ton of pages using cdosys to send out various pieces of mail from asp pages on our hosted websites. I initially ran into problems with the argo web client interferring with IIS port 80 traffic. I switched the web client to port 8080 and that helped. However I have seen little or no CDOSYS messages since installing argosoft. Does anyone know of sucessful installs of these two pieces of software together and have any pointers to get them to play nice?

Regards,

Dave Hudson

We have ours set up so it works beautifully...
set smtp server to listen on a different port than 25... configure smtp server to relay through argo port 25(smart server) with authentication set up,(or make the IP adress of the server trusted)... Then you should be pretty much set....

check your smtp server mail folders to see where the emails have been going.. they may still be in the queue and not deleted yet..

stop and start the smtp server to get it started again..

That looks like a winner! I'm already seeing more traffic than I did all morning. I set the port to 8025 and added my main domain I get mail on to the smart server box and added the web IP to my trusted list. Do you think I should add other IP's to the "trused senders"? I have 7 Ip's on the machine that could potentially send mail to argo.

Thanks for the quick advice.

Dave:
setting them to trusted only means they do not need to send authentication to argo. I'd set them the same way that you did for the primary server.

FWIW: If CDOSYS and CDONTS are the same, you can use CDONTS to send directly to ArGo. I have a sample, with SMTP Authentication here in the Download Library. I used to use it on my web forms when I used classic ASP.

Matt:

Do I use the outbound security tab to specify an argo login/password if I want to do true smtp authentication? I agree that the trusted IP's does not seem very secure. Do I use basic authentication?

Thanks,

Dave Hudson

Dave:
Yes, the outbound security tab, basic authentication, using a complete email address and password. If the other servers are on the same intranet, and not on the internet, or they have static IP addresses, trusting them should not be an issue(who else could have those IP addresses?)... My servers are on the same intranet, so I just trust them..

Mail Server v1.0.5.8

Mail Server

  • Mailbags now have an option to accept mail only when specified server is down - will help to fight with spam which attempt to deliver mail bypassing the main server;
  • When delivering mail, if main exchanger returns 4xx reply (temporary problem), the server will not try other exchangers, will retry later the main exchanger;
  • Server options moved from registry to a XML file. 64 bit versions of Vista and 2008 server appear to be having access rights problems to the Windows registry, and the change will make our server more compatible with 64 bit versions;
  • Added an option to specify the number of lines on the log screen, when using the user interface. Was causing memory problems if left running for long time;
  • Fixed couple of problems, which were showing when SQL server was set up to use case sensitive SQL statements;
  • Made changes in the remoting interface to allow logging in using aliases;

Web Interface

  • Made changes to allow logging in using aliases;
  • When viewing folders, web interface now displays the name of logged in user;
