Hi,
Have have trouble with ArgoSoft Mail Server (1.0.5.2 and previous versions). When I have more than 20-30 mails waiting, then my mail app (Windows Mail on Windows Vista) cant receive them. There seems to be a POP3 timeout just after it has asked how many mail there is waiting. Connecting to the web interface and removing some of the mail fix the error.
Sincerely
Robert

This is a log when I have two accounts that I check out. The second account contains 50 e-mails, and the mail application fails to retrieve them (after a minute there is a timeout). | Have you tried accessing this mailbox from the web interface? It appears that it "Craps Out" on message 51. Maybe it is a corrupt or malformed email message that is causing the issue. If you use the web interface, you can create a sub folder. Check a batch of messges and move the the problem one to the a sub-folder. If all works after that, then that message should be viewed in Notepad to see whats in it. Have you also tried a Virus scan on the message folders? |

| From the web interface everything works. This isn't a issue with a corrupt mail, in the above log I created 50 test mails (not 51), containing the same information. I know by experince that if I remove 20-30 of them the mail application receives the rest without the timeout. So if I doesn't check the mail often enough the number of mails increases and then I can't recive them with my mail app.

Do you use eWall? This should be easy enough to test. Later on today I will set up a test email account on my server and fill it with messages and then try to retrieve it via POP3 and see what happens. What POP3 client are you using? |

| No I'm not using eWall and I have also disabled my antivirus software. I'm using Windows Mail that comes with Windwows Vista.

I wrote a test script that sent 100 email messages to ArGo Mail Server .NET v1.05.2. My desktop is Windows XP, my Server OS is Windows 2003 Server. Using Outlook Express from Windows XP all 100 messages were retrieved without any errors. Do you have the Mail Server installed on Vista? Did they change the mail app on Vista from Outlook Express? I don't have Vista on my network, so it is difficult for me to test further. I just did some Googling and came up with this:
http://claydawg.helpdesk.olemiss.edu/?p=125
Based on the various sites and posts I visited this seems to do the trick. Please let me know how you make out, if you decide to try this.

I'm running the mail server on Windows 2003, so the the difference is that I'm using Vista as a client. I also found that many have experienced the same problem (with Vista, not ArgoSoft) but unfortunatly the Vista fix didn't work for me.
I'll try some other clients later today and see if the problem is on the server or on the client.

Hi again,
I just tried to receive the mails from a Windows XP computer with Outlook Express, and this time outside my intranet. So the problem seems not be a Vista specific and I cant exclude ArgoSoft mail server.
If I set up a test account on my mail server, can ArgoSoft do some online check?

Do you use eWall or Mail Filter? What else do you run on that serve, including AntiVirus and Firewall? Are you using SQLExpress or the full version of SQL? I can't speak for ArGoSoft (Archie) as he is a separate entity than ArGoStuff, although we communicate regularly. If you send me a Private message (use the message Icon under my name) with the email account specifics I will give it a try and let you know my results. |
