Ok, some of my mail sent from my argo server is blocked and returned to my server. my server then deletes is to avoid looping. ive done some research and i think it becuase i dont have an SPF record.

i have no idea what an SPF record is apart from that its a text file stored in a certain place.

Is there anyone here who can give me step by step instructions? if so please give me very basic instructions please dont asum i know absolutly anything about thsi subject  thanks

Zac: There are many utilities on the net for helping you create an SPF record...  That needs to be added by the folks who manage your DNS entry for the IP address that you have.  What concerns me more is the "looping"...  Any email that is returned to your server should not be causing a loop... Can you post the part of the log that shows the looping?

my main problem is that i have a dedicated server from my hosts and so i hostme own domains therefore i need to create my spf record and add it to the DNS.

i just tried this a few minutes ago and failed, the argo mail server stopped sending mails at all! so i have undone what i have done and need to start again.

really need to get this sorted as most of my emails are not getting through to people becuse of it.

Check our Links section, you can search on the word SPF and it will return several links to assist in the creation of an SPF record. As Matt stated, it has to be applied to the DNS server that resolves your name and MX record. I also recommend that your IP address has a reverse PTR record, some domains will reject email without one, including the domains I manage, including ArGoStuff. And finally, in Argo, make sure that he HOST property resolves to a FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name), for example, mydomain.com. By Default if this field is left blank it will use the computer name, and that will not resolve to your domain.

Mail Server v1.0.5.9

Mail Server

  • Added additonal tracking of connections for SMTP and POP3: if they stay on for over 30 minutes, they are getting disconnected;
  • Fixed a problem with mailbags when they accept mail only when main server is down: in case of timeout mailbags were still treating the main server as "available" and rejecting mail;
  • Changed color coding of logs. Now red denotes only errors, delivery is green, POP3, SMTP, IMAP connections - blue;

Web Interface

  • Fixed a problem, when session timeouts were causing errors in the windows system logs;

Mail Server v1.0.5.8

Mail Server

  • Mailbags now have an option to accept mail only when specified server is down - will help to fight with spam which attempt to deliver mail bypassing the main server;
  • When delivering mail, if main exchanger returns 4xx reply (temporary problem), the server will not try other exchangers, will retry later the main exchanger;
  • Server options moved from registry to a XML file. 64 bit versions of Vista and 2008 server appear to be having access rights problems to the Windows registry, and the change will make our server more compatible with 64 bit versions;
  • Added an option to specify the number of lines on the log screen, when using the user interface. Was causing memory problems if left running for long time;
  • Fixed couple of problems, which were showing when SQL server was set up to use case sensitive SQL statements;
  • Made changes in the remoting interface to allow logging in using aliases;

Web Interface

  • Made changes to allow logging in using aliases;
  • When viewing folders, web interface now displays the name of logged in user;
