I am in the process of setting up a new webmail. it is PHP based, and I have the option to use PHPmailer() og SMTP.

The problem is that my server requires authentication with a specific username and password, but in the webmail it is not possible to specify a username or paswword, as it only uses the username and password from the account. (email and each users password).

I would like the mails to go out over SMTP, and not via PHPmailer() as I want (NEED TO) backup all outgoing emails and add advertising in the mails, so is there a solution for this?

I do not want to use the username and password as authentication, as I run a free email service, thus making it very easy for spammers to misuse my service. So I only allow the users to send out via the webmail, and then they have to send SMTP out over their own provider.

Im not sure what you are trying to do but you can try adding the ip address of server sending the emails to the trusted addresses in Argosoft. It will not require SMTP authentication.

Add 127.0.0.1 to trusted IP's as Jared has suggested and try to customize PHPmailer() to relay through ArGo via SMTP. I'm sure this can be done anywhere in the config files of your webmail application. This way you are able to add your ads by MailFilter, because PHPmailer will relay to ArGo and ArGo will pass outgoing mail to MF.

PHPmailer() seems to be a class supplied by sourceforge.net (http://phpmailer.sourceforge.net/). A quick view into the docs let me assume that it just builds a rfc822 conform message which is streamed to the smtp server defined in the property mail->host (which should be by default localhost) via smtp (default port 25).

Mail Server

  • Added additonal tracking of connections for SMTP and POP3: if they stay on for over 30 minutes, they are getting disconnected;

  • Changed color coding of logs. Now red denotes only errors, delivery is green, POP3, SMTP, IMAP connections - blue;

Web Interface

Mail Server v1.0.5.8

Mail Server

  • Mailbags now have an option to accept mail only when specified server is down - will help to fight with spam which attempt to deliver mail bypassing the main server;
  • When delivering mail, if main exchanger returns 4xx reply (temporary problem), the server will not try other exchangers, will retry later the main exchanger;
  • Server options moved from registry to a XML file. 64 bit versions of Vista and 2008 server appear to be having access rights problems to the Windows registry, and the change will make our server more compatible with 64 bit versions;
  • Added an option to specify the number of lines on the log screen, when using the user interface. Was causing memory problems if left running for long time;
  • Fixed couple of problems, which were showing when SQL server was set up to use case sensitive SQL statements;
  • Made changes in the remoting interface to allow logging in using aliases;

Web Interface

  • Made changes to allow logging in using aliases;
  • When viewing folders, web interface now displays the name of logged in user;
