OK.. some answers:

finger/autorespond: no
DNS: Only if you want to be able to send email out to the net. one or more valid DNS servers
IP Home: no
Local host: what do you want the server to announce itself as to other servers? example: xxx.nothing.com
allow relay: again, only if you want to be able to send email out to the net.
local domains: If this is going to be a productional server, absoutely, otherwise you can't receive email. local domain would be example.com. user would be "email"(in your example)
SMTP authentication: yes, unless you want to be an "open relay" and allow spammers to send their junk through your server.

There should be several documents out there on how to set up the server, rather than us trying to give a complete tutorial here in the forum. have you looked for any "how to's"?

The email was delivered to your mailbox. You should be able to click on that user and view the mailbox. Now you'll have to configure a POP3 email clicent to receive the email(s)...

If you can find those then I will use it.
I have googled for days and nothing works, ever.
There should be a step by step guide on the ArGoSoft site - no luck.

I give up it's taken an hour too much already.

Thanks for trying to help out.
Until Argosoft has a proper tutorial then there is no point for use to use this complicated software.

I appreciate your time taken.
Cheers

The email was delivered to your mailbox on the argo server. It's sitting there waiting for you to retrieve it. I'm not sure that I understand how argo was supposed to "deliver" it to you? It did what you asked it to do, and delivered the email that you sent to the email address that you sent it to. Until you configure some email client to receive email from that server, it'll wait in the mailbox on the server.

It sounds like you have the server pretty well configured, but now you need to configure an email client to go get the email(s).(or look at them via the web server)

Ok I get what you mean, thanks.
I set up Outlook Express to get the dummy mail from the folder.

It's a nice tool for developers to test their mail scripts, NEAT!!!

Thanks!

Mail Server v1.0.5.8

Mail Server

  • Mailbags now have an option to accept mail only when specified server is down - will help to fight with spam which attempt to deliver mail bypassing the main server;
  • When delivering mail, if main exchanger returns 4xx reply (temporary problem), the server will not try other exchangers, will retry later the main exchanger;
  • Server options moved from registry to a XML file. 64 bit versions of Vista and 2008 server appear to be having access rights problems to the Windows registry, and the change will make our server more compatible with 64 bit versions;
  • Added an option to specify the number of lines on the log screen, when using the user interface. Was causing memory problems if left running for long time;
  • Fixed couple of problems, which were showing when SQL server was set up to use case sensitive SQL statements;
  • Made changes in the remoting interface to allow logging in using aliases;

Web Interface

  • Made changes to allow logging in using aliases;

  • Server settings have been moved from registry to the XML file, which will be located in the common application data directory. 64 bit versions of Windows were having trouble writing into the registry; similar change is coming to the mail server;
