hi Steve
I have many performance issues when visiting ArgoStuff, it takes 20-30 seconds to load a page, sometimes even more. Any idear why? I never had these problems before! Can you let os in on what machinery and line capacity you have?
Regards
Dan

Dan,
Is this issue since yesterday? I have been making changes to my internal network set up. I also made some changes to IIS and also with the Web.Config.
Each time you make a change to the web.config, the whole .net application has to restart and thus, it "recompiles" the page when it is first loaded.
In IIS I also set the page to expire immediately. From reading, it appears it take several "round trips" to the server to verify if a page, image is current, thus taking more time than loading a fresh copy.
There has also been some SQL Exceptions, incorrect being passed to the pages, and bottlenecking SQL. This is currently under investigation.
I also added a new hub to my network and switched the severs to the hub, instead of being connected to the router directly.
I run MS Windows 2003 Server, 1 GB ram. I am on a limited bandwidth, with 1.5 mbps up and 384 kbps down (the downside is your upload speed). I have been looking to increase the bandwidth to improve performance.
Also my ISP had a outage last night, so if you hit this sight right after it came back up, you also got caught in a lot of network activity.
I am also looking into replacing my DSL modem, as this one has been running 7 years straight. The only break it gets is during a black out
Let me know if you still have issues, and I will make some more changes.

Steve...the site does seem to be much much slower today than normal...30 seconds for a page is about the quickest I've seen today :-(

Remy,
I had content expiration turn on, as of last night, it was suppose to improve performance, apparently not. I have since turned it off. Roland & I were working on it. You next hit to the site will be the same, second should improve and third will be back to normal.

There does seem to be some bottlenecking on my bandwidth, but it is difficult to test as there is so much activity on the pipe. I am looking into increasing my bandwidth, but I am also trying to get everything tweaked. One thing that bothers me, the last time I upped my bandwidth, I did several speed tests and they were near the published bandwidth that I had upgraded to, now they are not, but again, as I am testing there is activity on the line which skews the results.
My DSL modem is 7 years old and has been running 24 x 7 during all that time, with the exception of blackouts. I am going to replace that next just to take that out of the picture.
I also notices those in Europe are more affected then those in the states. Right now I am at work, and it seems a bit sluggish also, so back to the testing and tweaking.
I did one test & I had stopped IIS & Mail Server it improve a bit but not much, the network utilization is only .05%, so there is something choking.
Plus my ISP had an outage yestday, so I don't know if that is a factor in all of this.

I have order a replacement DSL modem, as the current one (as noted earlier) is over 7 years old, and starting to buzz.
I am also actively investigating this issue. It appears that I am only getting about 50% of the bandwidth I am suppose to have. Even with the site & mail traffic factored in, It's not up to spec, IMO.
I'll keep you posted. My load time tonight from work is better than yesterday. Yesterday it was really slow.
The replacement parts are expected in on Friday, and will be installed sometime over the weekend, so there may be some service disruptions during this time.
I will also be re-checking the wiring, and testing other equipment inside my network, so I can rule that out as an issue. I have ruled out the Server, as I have run my speed tests from 3 different machines in the network, and all the results are about the same.

Latest Update:
I have spent the last few days testing to isolate the cause of the bottleneck on the bandwidth. Some of the testing includes:
- Testing each computer to rule out computer configuration issues.
- Bypassing all the new wiring in this office, and using the old wiring from the old office. (I moved all equipment into this location in December).
- Bypassed the Router and connected directly to the DSL modem.
- Disconnected my Wireless phone system and tested (Some 1GIGA phone have been known to cause issues with the DSL lines).
- Replaced the 7 year old modem with a new one (same make and model as recommended by my ISP).
- Check and replaced a few patch cables.
Tech Support from my ISP has put in a ticket on the issue, but we may not hear anything until Monday or Tuesday.
I will post more when information becomes available.

| In looking at my logs, looks like you hit the site during my Server wide Virus Scan. The scan slows things down a bit. |

| Mail Server v1.0.5.8 | |
Mail Server
- Mailbags now have an option to accept mail only when specified server is down - will help to fight
with spam which attempt to deliver mail bypassing the main server;
- When delivering mail, if main exchanger returns 4xx reply (temporary problem), the server will not
try other exchangers, will retry later the main exchanger;
- Server options moved from registry to a XML file. 64 bit versions of Vista and 2008 server appear
to be having access rights problems to the Windows registry, and the change will make our server more
compatible with 64 bit versions;
- Added an option to specify the number of lines on the log screen, when using the user interface.
Was causing memory problems if left running for long time;
- Fixed couple of problems, which were showing when SQL server was set up to use
case sensitive SQL statements;
- Made changes in the remoting interface to allow logging in using aliases;
Web Interface
- Made changes to allow logging in using aliases;
- When viewing folders, web interface now displays the name of logged in user;

| FTP Server v1.0.1.6 |
- Server settings have been moved from registry to the XML file, which will be
located in the common application data directory. 64 bit versions of Windows were
having trouble writing into the registry; similar change
is coming to the mail server;
- If used, XML files (Users.XML, Groups.XML and ServerOptions.XML) will also be moved
to the common application data directory;

|
| FTP Server v1.0.1.5 |
- When performing active data transfers on systems with multiple IP addresses, data
connections were using first available IP address, rather than one on which the control
connection was active. It was causing confusion with firewalls and routers;

| Web Mail Hosting | I am considering to start web mail hosting service for ArGoSoft Mail Server .NET: mail server will be installed on your computer, while the web interface - on ours. It will save the hassle with setting up the web interface, and keep updating it.
Please vote here wheter you are interested in such a service.

bounced and warning messages. This feature was present in the Pro version,
but was missing in the .NET;
- Now it is possible to set a daily limit for each user for sending mail out (see Max Rcpt To...
option when editing users);
- Each session can have a limit of RCPT TO commands Options - Server Settings - General
. This feature was present in the Pro version, but was missing in the .NET.
- Now allowing to specify the lifetime for remoting validation token, can be useful to extend the
length of web interface sessions (Options - Server Options - Advanced);
Web Interface
-
Fixed Unable to Find Users Path... exceptions problem when accessing users for very first time;
-
Updated to allow the domain group administrator to update Max Rcpt To commands (see above);
